Soho Bikes TV Episode 03 - Which Bike And Wheel Size is Best?

We gathered a “who’s who” of UK downhill and enduro talent (and Rob), headed out of London and hit the trails at BikePark Wales to test the following:

- Is a downhill bike faster than a modern enduro bike on a UK downhill track?
- Which wheel size is faster down a UK downhill track; mid travel 29er, 27.5 or 27.5+?

We taped off the most technical downhill track at BikePark Wales and used Action Sport Timing’s race-timing system to gather data from the riders on their different bikes over multiple runs. The timing data showed which bikes were fastest…but the rider discussion and feedback showed that drawing definite conclusions isn’t actually that simple.

Expect some insightful results, provocative opinions and plenty of laughs in the most exciting episode of Soho Bikes TV yet!

Flashes of the Altai

Three childhood friends set out for the far western corner of Mongolia to combine
mountain biking and packrafting in a self-supported adventure into the unknown. Never
having attempted a mountain bike to packraft link-up, they decided it was a great idea to
travel to one of the most remote and sparsely populated places in the world to try it out.

The goal was to traverse the Mongolian Altai, a remote range of high glaciated peaks
with silt-laden rivers draining from their heights. The only inhabitants of the region are
Kazakh nomads, the last people on earth who continue the tradition of hunting with
golden eagles. Ancient standing stones carved over the millennia stand guard over the
landscape.

Twelve days in the wilderness, riding over high passes loaded with gear, surviving
raging whitewater, drinking fermented mare’s milk, and battling the elements, this was
not an adventure these young lads would soon forget.

Remi Thirion Welcome to the team

RÉMI THIRION BECOMES A NEW BUFF® AMBASSADOR
Born in Raves (France), Thirion has been riding from a very young age and he's been racking up wins ever since. Rémi signed with his first big team in 2011 and started to make a name for himself after two ninth-place finishes in 2012, one in Val di Sole and the other in Val D'Isere. Thirion took his first World Cup in Vallnord a mere year later in 2013.
Rémi’s style and technique on the bike has quickly turned him into one of the world’s fastest and most well-known riders on the downhill mountain biking scene, a sport in which the technical and physical difficulty of the races provide an ongoing challenge for him and his fellow riders. After an ankle injury in Mont Sainte Anne forced the athlete to take some time off from the mountains, Rémi is back this year to team up with BUFF® and continue breaking records at the DH World Championship.
