Trek World Racing Stories 2.3 // Lenzerheide 2015 // Downhill World Cup

The Swiss Alps offered up the new “classic” track at Lenzerheide, coupling steep technical and high speed, with dust and heat. The Trek World Racing riders had a solid outing with Laurie Greenland picking up his first ever World Cup win, and Brook MacDonald backing up his top 10 result in Leogang with another top 10. George and Greg were less lucky with the track giving them something to remember for next year. George crashed in his race run but showed his speed by matching race winner Greg Minnaar in the middle sector. Greg Williamson salvaged some points and improved his overall position after crashing earlier in practice and damaging his shoulder.

2015 UCI MTB World Cup Lenzerheide POV

For the very first time the UCI World Cup pays a visit to Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Boasting a newly built track, that's been specifically designed with racing in mind — surrounded by snow-capped mountains and an emerald lake — it's the picture-perfect setting for a new round.

Course commentator, Claudio Caluori, has been involved with the track from the start and has seen it turn from an untamed mountain to a World Cup worthy run. Join Caluori and Colombia's Marcelo Gutiérrez as they take you on a loose, dusty and rough ride down the epic new track.

Claudio Caluori: Many people think I built the track, but I didn't — Rafael Rhyner from Trailworks built and designed it. Before the course was there I walked down the mountain with Rafael and we discussed what lines would be good to use, so I've seen it transform from a mountainside to a World Cup course.

2015 UCI MTB World Cup Lenzerheide Preview

Scheduled for the beginning of July, the Swiss resort is – along with Lourdes – one of the new venues this year. Lenzerheide will welcome the season’s first combined XCO/DHI event, which will also be the first of three rounds (2015-2017) at the venue in the lead-up to the 2018 UCI World Championships. The Swiss, traditionally strong in XCO, will have the chance to race at home and the athletes wait impatiently the first weekend of July.
